The male bass looks for a spawning bed in shallow protected areas such as a sunken log, near a rock, or a group of bulrushes in a lake. For spawning to take place, they normally move from the deep waters into shallower waters within 10 feet of the shore, in depths of 1 to 6 feet where the water temperature is above 45 degrees in areas that receive direct sunlight.
